about kyra

photographer | journalist | storyteller

I graduated cum laude from Western Washington University in 2017 with my Bachelor of Arts in visual journalism and linguistics with a concentration in French language and Central and Eastern European studies. In 2017, I studied mass media, communications and diplomacy at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic as a U.S. Department of State Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholar. I have several year's’ experience working on and managing publications, in communications and marketing, and in higher education environments.

Currently, I contribute to The Foster Blog at the University of Washington’s Michael G. Foster School of Business, one of the top business schools in the country. I have contributed to the award-winning student publications The Western Front and Klipsun Magazine at my alma mater. In 2017, I worked as Editor-in-Chief of Klipsun Magazine to create the Fall 2017 edition "Evolve." I built upon the tumultuous divide and strides forward that previous editors had envisioned, boosted Klipsun's online presence and led the magazine into a new chapter. Previously I have worked as multimedia and story editor for Klipsun, head copy editor for The Western Front, and as the communications and marketing intern for Western Washington University.

In my work I aim to inform, inspire, create and bear witness. The most profound work a journalist can do is document the human experience and share the stories of those whose voices go unheard. I have chosen to do my part to make change in our world through journalism. My ultimate goal is to document culture, travel, global politics, and human rights. I aspire to work for a news organization that values accuracy, inspiring people and bringing communities together.

I am currently based in Seattle, Washington. Please contact me at kyrataubelphotography@gmail.com with inquiries about work or collaborations.
